Just replaced my headlight bulbs with brighter ones - still Phillips H11, but 4,000 Kelvins instead of 3,400 - to discover the connector is cooked.
Probably from being on all the time; never gave any problem, just broke up when I tried to remove it. Early models suffered from this, where the heat caused the grip of the connector to 'relax', more resistance, more heat etc.
Mine has done 41,000 kms, so this may be a future problem for many of us. Looks like Ducati don't supply the plug separately, so will have to go through auto-electrical to source it. I've got it working in the meantime, and can report that the bulbs are an improvement - not as bright as HIDs of course, but I didn't want the extra weight/complexity of those.
Well I've been struck by the burnt low-beam socket failure as well. I logged 9,900 miles and noticed on the way to work it suddenly got very dark. I flipped the hi-beam on and viola, there was light. Got to work, popped the cover off, went to unplug bulb but found it half melted, ugh. Time to hit the dealer up and wait til next spring for a f'n replacement headlight harness assembly... why does shit like this happen as August arrives and Italy closes shop for the month.

I found my low beam headlight went out over the weekend when a fellow rider pointed it out. At first I told him no that one is my high beam and it is suppose to be off but then I looked and he was right both lights were out. I figured the bulb must have burned out, strange that it would after a year and 9500mi but maybe. I drove the rest of the way home with my high beams on. When i got home I pulled the cover off the back of the low beam side and then squeezed the bulb connector to pull it off. It seemed a little stuck on there, but i didn't really yank on it as you can only fit about 2 fingers down in that corner anyway. Well it came off and I see that the female part of the harness which i just pulled off was broken in half - the half I had in my hand still attached to the wiring was all burnt and the other half had melted itself into the back side of the headlight bulb. The bulb itself didn't appear to be burnt out as the filament still looked okay.
I went to the high beam side and this connector slipped right off with ease and I can see the yellow ring part of the harness side was still attached to the harness rather than melted inside the back of the bulb. However the harness plug burned my fingers because it was so hot. Do they suppose to get that hot? - I assume so, the bulbs sure get hot and i was driving for about 2 hours but I'm afraid it will melt the plastic like the low beam side.
Not sure what could have caused this, any ideas.
2008 1098, stock electrical system, stock headlights. I had the recall done on the rectifier about 1000 miles ago. I'll try and get a photo later tonight.
